Why to test for HIV :
Most of the people today take this word HIV seriously enough. Its always good to get tested for the hiv to be on a safer side and let others know the same. It's always good to know the disease if one possess the virus early which helps in meditation and thus longer life of the diseased. In Asian countries like India, it has become common that the couple gets tested before getting married.
Who should get tested ?
The people working in the red light areas i.e. the csw's, men/women who are sexual active, those who have had blood transfusion in past i.e before 1990 are the people who should get tested at least once in a year.
When to get tested ?
Most of the doctors recommend getting tested after 3 months from exposure.
What tests are available ?
Elissa (Enzyme linked immuno sorbent assay), is the most common test which is performed where the testing personnel take approximately 30 ml of blood from the body. The results are available at the place of blood retrieval as per the authorities. Some give away results in a week, some within two days, while some take longer.
